Why learning Robotics in school is necessary

In today’s tech savvy world, children are getting exposed to technology more than ever. Learning through gadgets is already on another level. Even schools realize that more tech- friendly the school is, more popular it will be. Then why not teach our children something which is their future. Robotics is no more a buzz word. Even Government of India is aware that if we want our children to be ready for the world tomorrow, they should be taught Robotics as early as possible. Some of the benefits are:

  •          By incorporating Robotics in the curriculum, we are opening a whole new world of opportunities for our children. Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Big Data are the technologies of today. By learning Robotics in the early age, we are setting up a base for them to learn these skills.
  •          Teaching Robotics is a method to inculcate curiosity in a child. When a child plans, designs and implements his own machine, he is not only taking a step towards technology, but also learning a process which shall be with him for his life. In the process of constructing his own Robot/machine, he acquires the skill of feasibility and learns to move ahead of failures. Robotics help child to learn how to give precise instructions.
  •          Educating children in Robotics helps in boosting creativity in a child. A child creates a machine out of an abstract idea. They learn how Science and Maths go hand in hand with Art, which is a rare combination.  Learning practically helps a child to retain information and retrieve it swiftly. Every child can become an innovator with Robotics.
  •          Robotics help children to gain problem solving skills. They sit in a group to brain storm on a problem, and come out with a solution, which is technically feasible and financially viable. Teaching robotics goes one step at a time. Children are taught basic models initially, and when they gain confidence on problem solving portion, they can start giving solutions to real life problems.

But There are few challenges too.
  •          Awareness is biggest concern for robotics. Many parents are unaware of how Robotics and Automation is changing the world.
  •          Few parents even think robotics as an arduous subject. They step back, thinking learning robotics requires certain skills.
  •          Being comfortable with status quo, does not let one step out from traditional way of teaching. Robotics is a practical and productive way. To learn Robotics, a child should be allowed to commit mistake, understand from it and go ahead. But, it takes lots of guts to let a child be and learn practically.
  •          Lack of continuous and sufficient technical information for the teachers who integrate the new technology, also limits the learning in Robotics.

But the ray of sunshine is that as government of most of the countries are getting cognizant of upcoming technologies and their applications in day to-day life, they are introducing Robotics curriculum in schools. Schools, even in rural areas are coming up with a robotics Lab. They have drones to servile their fields and own MET system to forecast rains.

Even a small child is ready to become a BotMaker and come up with solutions to the daily life complications.

With this attitude the future of Robotics ins India and in World shines bright :)

  4. Interesting...robotics is a broad concept involving areas such as automation, mechanical engineering,IOT,embedded systems etc,I always have apprehensions about comprehension capabilities of these budding minds. But as you said the first step towards knowing it might generate curiosity in them.I have seen many online DIY kits for children.Appreciate your efforts in imparting this unique course for the budding generation..keep going .... 1. Your motivation is fuel to our passion! Robotics is also called STEM education. A child works on Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics parallelly. Previously, Robotics was more or less limited to Industrial Solutions. But better late then never, people are getting exposed to how Robotics is making our children future ready!

Robotics and Automation – History and a Step Ahead

Industrial robots have come a long way today. They are used in every aspect of life possible – right from manufacturing the car to creating the human organs. Let’s go into origin of robotics. History of Robot Leonardo da Vinci was the first person who conceptualized the idea of a robot. He designed the first self-propelled wagon, which was powered by clockwork springs. He also created a drawing of the earliest recorded humanoid, his knight in armor. This early robot could in theory perform several movements including sitting and waving. It is unknown, if this humanoid was ever created. William Grey Walter, a renowned scientist wanted to proof that a strong connection between a small number of brain cells can result in a complex behavior. To demonstrate that, in 1948, he created Walter’s tortoise. These tortoises were simple two cell systems, which demonstrated several behaviors like obstacle avoidance and the ability to move towards and away from light. These are seen as

Are You ready for Future?

As the machine grows ever more intelligent, they emerge not only as powerful tools but also as close companion. We are standing on the crossroads where the technology is developing immensely and rapidly. Soon the robots will take up all repetitive and mundane jobs. World will not be the same as it looks like today.  Are our kids ready for the future? Are we doing enough to armor them to face the challenges of tomorrow? Robotics is the fastest developing technology.  In 2014, BCG (Boston Consulting Group), projected that the global market for Robotics would reach $67 billion by 2025. In 2017, they have revised their estimation sharply upwards to $87 billion by 2025 – mostly because of soaring customer demands. Experts see robots playing a significant role in children’s emotional, social and cognitive development in the near future. Children not only gain confidence, but also it is empowering and profound experience for them, when they see the machine they have made,
